Artist Andy Warhol

About Andy Warhol

Andy Warhol was an American artist, film director, and producer who was a leading figure in the visual art movement known as pop art.

After a successful career as a commercial illustrator, Warhol became a renowned and sometimes controversial artist.

In Warhol’s first-ever statement on his Pop Art, he talked about how he presented “the symbols of the harsh, impersonal products and brash materialist objects on which America is built today.”

The Andy Warhol Museum in his native city, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, holds an extensive permanent collection of art and archives. It is the largest museum in the United States dedicated to a single artist.

  • Warhol's art used many types of media, including hand drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, silk screening, sculpture, film, and music.
  • His works explore the relationship between artistic expression, advertising, and celebrity culture in the 1960s.
  • Warhol loved Los Angeles, beauty and plastic, things that were modern and changed quickly.
